Porochista Khakpour, Picador-Guest Professor at the University of Leipzig and 2007 California Book Award winner, will read from her texts, talk about her profession and discuss her experience in Leipzig.

Porochista Khakpour was born 1978 in Teheran and raised in the area of Greater Los Angeles. During her studies she got among others grants from the Johns Hopkins University in Writing Seminars, Northwestern University, the Sewanee Writers’ Conference and Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Her creative work was and still will be published e.g. in the New York Times, The Paris Review Daily and the Los Angeles Times. She released her first novel “Sons and other flammable objects” in 2007. Next to her daily narrative work she teaches Creative Writing and Literature in various Universities.

The University of Leipzig has set up in cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service and the Veranstaltungsforum der Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck the Picador Guest Professorship for Literature at the University of Leipzig aiming at conveying and critically reflecting on Anglo-American Literature. The Picador Guest Professorship is designed to promote the rich cultural heritage of the English language. Furthermore it should encourage students to experience literature in a more direct and active way than it is possible in seminars focusing on historical and theoretical knowledge.
